Beware of lead . . . and dirty fingers

It has been a long week at 3 Elm Court. We started off strong with a lead poisoning scare. We got the call following Jackson's yearly blood test for lead levels. It came back at 24 (anything over 10 the call the state). Lots of tears were cried. We were super worried. Our saving grace came when talking to the state lead poisoning specialist- error rates for finger prick blood draws are high. So Jackson had to go back on Thursday for the real deal- straight from the veins. Papa got to sit through that with the little man. So we waited and wondered if out little miracle boy would end up with unknown troubles in the future because our house was poisoning him. . . . . the new test results came back and they were great. His lead level was only at 2. The lesson of this horrible few days was this: don't let Scott take Jackson for blood work- the little guys fingers were dirty. I guess Scott didn't think he needed to clean him up after a visit to the dairy farm. Go figure.

Things are back to normal. Jackson is happy and is parents are only worrying about the little things again. Like what we should feed him for dinner . . . .

damn.

dont blame scott- i wouldnt have thought that not washing hands = crazy lead levels - and if so - isnt it the responsibility of the health care provider to do that - or at least give you a heads up...

It certainly made me stop and say a couple of prayers. There is no doubt in my mind that Jackson is one unique little guy and the world is a better place because of his entry to it.
Now that it is over, I'll share how Scott told me about the worry about the lead level in Jackson's blood:
Phone rings. Mom answers and chats with Scott for a few moments. There are a couple of chuckles, but not too much. She hands me the phone. "What's up?" I ask. "Cassidy died," Scott replied. I was horrified! What does one say in this case? Then he starts laughing and says, "Well, what I really called for isn't as bad as Cassidy dying!"
I'm not sure I agree, but now there are no worries! Love that boy... and his Papa!
