Happy Fall

Today is the first day of fall. Probably our favorite season of all. The weather was crisp for a few days but got warmer the last few days of the week. Newmarket is having it's annual Heritage Festival this weekend. The Rowe's love Kettle Corn!!!!!! The chickens still aren't laying any eggs. Scott gave them another month before the half a cow in the basement as 10 chicken friends for the winter!

We got Jackson's Halloween costume last week- so darn cute.

Enjoy the little preview . . . . .

are you feeding them a layer mash or layer pellet? I have heard that the pellets work better. Do you provide them with about 16 hours of light per day? And finally I think they just haven't really started laying eggs yet. They will come. I predict you will get below average yields during the winter months but once spring hits and the weather warms up, days get longer you will see a big jump in production. Also sometime soon if not by now you need to supplement their diet with oyster shells. Your local feed store will sell them. DON'T feed your chickens egg shells for calcium. They might decide they like eggs shells and eat their own eggs. Do you give them scraps or stuff that might have gone into the compost bin?
